The COVID-19 pandemic and the appointment of a new Secretary General will be the key focus for the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders who will host a virtual Special Leaders Retreat next month.
The Forum Chair, Prime Minister of Tuvalu, Kausea Natano says he is pleased to confirm the first week of February for the session. The 2020 Forum leaders retreat that was set to be held in Fiji was deferred due to the global pandemic.
The incumbent Secretary General, Dame Meg Taylor, is expected to remain in the position until her successor is appointed. Dame Meg Taylor of Papua New Guinea was appointed Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum in August 2014. She became the first woman to hold this post.
