Rotorua Celebrates Pasifika Culture

Rotorua Pacific Islands Development Charitable Trust Whanau Ora Navigator and coordinator for the Pasifika Rotorua 2021 festival, Tupou Kaloni, says she’s proud of the community who have come together to celebrate all things Pasifika.

Tupou says despite living with a global pandemic it’s a chance for people to celebrate, embrace, and learn about Pasifika culture. She is especially proud to see Pasifika youth embrace who they are, learning more about their heritage and the importance of maintaining their culture, language, and traditions.

National MP for Rotorua Todd McClay says he’s pleased the festival was able to go ahead after last year’s cancellation due to the nationwide lock down. He says the Pasifika community in Rotorua is very strong and the festival adds to the diversity of Rotorua.

NZ is a multicultural country and to see people who may not know a lot about Pasifika communities come along and relax with their families and sit on the lawn is a great thing.Todd McClay MP
