Fiji’s Rugby Sevens team is celebrating tonight after a convincing win against New Zealand, beating them 27-12 at the Tokyo Stadium. Fijians are celebrating across the globe despite dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the second Gold for the Fiji Sevens team winning the inaugural Olympic sevens tournament in Rio in 2016.
Fiji Times reports Meli Derenalagi, Sireli Maqala and Jiuta Wainiqolo scored one try each with Fiji leading 19-12 at half-time.
Asaeli Tuivuaka scored the only try in the second half while Waisea Nacuqu kicked a penalty goal in the dying moments.
Fiji Government have congratulated the team for once again uniting the country during trying times when Tropical Cyclone Winston Hit and now COVID.
