Cabinet has made the decision that the country will move into the new COVID-19 Protection Framework “Traffic Light System” at 11.59 pm on Thursday December 2. Friday December 3 will be the first day under the Traffic Light System.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern made the announcement this afternoon during a COVID-19 update. Auckland is initially set to move to Red in the new Traffic Light system.
Ms. Ardern also announced that hairdressers and barbers can open on Thursday November 25 in Auckland for customers who have booked, are fully vaccinated, and can produce their vaccine pass. The Prime Minister has urged those who have yet to be vaccinated to get their jab in order not to miss out on entering bars, restaurants and attending events in the future.
The Verify App will be released tomorrow which will allow businesses to check the validity of vaccine passes.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will be back in Auckland on Thursday and will meet with business leaders and help support service providers.
Yesterday 9,851 first and second vaccine doses were administered, made up of 3,079 first doses and 6,772 second doses. Currently 91% of New Zealand’s population have had at least once dose of the vaccine, 83% two doses. 89% of Pasifika have had one dose with 79% having had two doses.
